Nicks Fractures Foot, Will Miss Meaningless Training Camp
May 24, 2012 – Staying at the top won’t be easy for the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants. The team announced on Thursday afternoon that wide receiver Hakeem Nicks fractured his foot at the Giants Organized Team Activities (OTAs). The injury was suffered during an individual drill on Thursday morning and is expected to keep him out up to 12 weeks. Nicks will undergo surgery tomorrow to have a screw inserted into the broken bone. The procedure will be performed by noted foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C. The expected recovery time for Nicks is approximately 12 weeks. The Giants report to training camp at the University at Albany on July 26. This could push into the Giants preseason schedule, which starts in August. Nicks is one of the most important receivers on the Giants roster and he’s put up some very good numbers in his first three years with Eli Manningpassing the 1,000 yard mark in each of the last two seasons.
So, word on the street today is that Nasty Nicks fractured his foot during OTA's today. Fine. Whatever. This kind of sucks I guess but does it really matter? First of all, pending a huge setback, he'll be 100% healthy to give Morris "Captain Wonderlic" Claiborne a proper introduction to the NFL on September 5th. Secondly, if there's one thing us Giants fans learned from last year, it's not to freak the fuck out over anything that happens before Week 1. Last year's preseason was bedlam - injuries, loss of FA, predictions of 0-16...and what happened? When you run an organization like the New York football Giants and have a coach like TC who demands accountability from his players, you have guys who step up. I was honestly really pissed when the Giants didn't go LB in the first 2 rounds but this is why Jerry Reese is the GM and I'm not. He has a crystal ball and therefore picked Reuben Randle in the 2nd round. Besides, remember that guy Steve Smith? As long as Eazy E is taking the snaps, David Diehl could line up in the slot and we'd be okay. Get well soon Nasty.
